When children start in Reception at St Christopher’s The Hall they become an important and valued part of the Pre Prep School. We have two Reception classes of up to 22 children, both supported by a Class Teacher and Teaching Assistant. The Early Years Foundation stage is fundamental in developing each child’s positive attitude to learning, and our experienced and skilled Reception staff nurture this through a combination of child led learning and directed teaching. We are passionate in ensuring that every child has the best possible start to their school life and provide a creative and exciting curriculum, through which the pupils discover a love of learning. This enables the children to have the opportunity to take ownership of their own learning and develop skills in Communication, Numeracy, Literacy, Reasoning and Physical Development. They also benefit from skilled and ambitious specialist teaching in PE, Music, Drama, ICT and MFL, offering them the chance to learn a wider range of skills for the future.
In Year 1 and 2, the children build upon the foundations of the EYFS, and are supported to continue their development as independent learners. We have two Year 1 and Year 2 classes of up to 22 children, all supported by a Class Teacher and Teaching Assistant. Our enthusiastic Pre Prep School staff are firmly committed to providing first class learning experiences for every pupil. Well planned, differentiated lessons give every child the opportunity to flourish and build upon their skills and knowledge, in a supportive, yet challenging environment. There is a positive, happy atmosphere in Pre Prep School and the children continue to enjoy the opportunity to work with our creative Specialist teachers and develop their skills in PE, Music, Drama, ICT and MFL.
